Second Harvest Food Bank Executive Director Receives L. Richardson Preyer Alumni Award

Leadership North Carolina recognizes Nan Holbrook Griswold

Winston-Salem, NC—May 28, 2008—Nan Holbrook Griswold, executive director of Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, has been honored with the L. Richardson Preyer Alumni Award by Leadership North Carolina.

The award is presented to a graduate of the Leadership North Carolina program whose demonstrated leadership has made a significant improvement in the quality of life, economic well-being and/or sense of community in our state. Griswold is a member of the LNC Class V.

Griswold has been Executive Director of Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina in Winston-Salem for twenty five years since 1982, the year it opened its doors to help feed the hungry. Since then, the Second Harvest Food Bank has grown to serve more than 390 partner agencies and churches in 18 counties of northwest North Carolina . Last year, Second Harvest Food Bank distributed nearly 9 million pounds of food.

In 2003, Griswold was recognized with a “Women in Business” Award by The Business Journal, and also was the recipient of the 2003 Effective Communicator Award from the Triad Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America for her vision and commitment to feeding the hungry. In 2005, 2006 and 2007, Griswold was recognized as one of the Most Influential People in the Triad by The Business Journal. Earlier this year, Griswold was named one of 24 Impact Business Leaders in the Triad by The Business Leader.

Griswold’s background is in social work and counseling. She graduated with a BA in Sociology from Wake Forest University , where she also completed course work for an MA Ed in counseling. She is currently serving as a member of the Winston Salem State University Business School Advisory Council.
