We know that there must be food on the table TODAY for people and communities to be able to do their best work. We also know that deeper dialogue and action is necessary if we are to achieve vibrant, resilient, hunger-free communities for all. Here are few simple ways you can help build greater awareness and inspire others to get involved during Hunger Action Month:
Tell us why hunger matters to you and what you are committed to do to help address food insecurity.
Feeding America is leading the charge to amplify the conversation about hunger on a national level. We want to be sure that the voices and stories of Northwest North Carolinans are part of this larger conversation. Whether you have personally experienced hunger or are witness to food insecurity in your community, we invite you to share your story as a way to build greater understanding and inspire others to get involved.
Join Our "WE CAN'T RUN ON EMPTY" Campaign
The feeling of running on empty is a reality for 48 million Americans. We're asking everyone we know to think about what they CAN'T do when they are hungry
and, in turn,
what they CAN do to help solve hunger.
The task is simple:
- Complete the following sentence with a dry erase marker on a plate:"On an empty stomach, I can't _____________."
- Take a picture and post it to social media with a statement about something you CAN do to help end hunger:
"That's why I will ___________." (donate, volunteer, share my story, talk about hunger with my friends, call my congressperson, invite Second Harvest to speak to my group, talk about hunger with my child...)
- We are using the hashtags #feedingcommunity and #hungeractionmonth - and hope you will, too!
September 8 is Hunger Action Day.
Show YOUR commitment to FEEDING COMMUNITY by wearing orange,
the color of the harvest and hunger awareness!
Vote to End Hunger is a broad coalition of individuals and organizations all committed to ending hunger in the U.S. and around the world by 2030. We believe that it will take the combined public and political will to do this and are working together to elevate the issue of hunger with candidates during the 2016 election cycle.
