Feeding Health at Second Harvest
There’s growing awareness and acknowledgment that poverty and food insecurity are linked with some of the most serious and costly health problems in our nation.
At Second Harvest Food Bank, we work to support healthy lives and healthy communities.
Our network of 460+ local food assistance organizations across 18 Northwest North Carolina counties rely on Second Harvest for healthy, nutritious food for their programs. More precisely, 79% of the food our partner programs provide to families, seniors, children, and any neighbor in need, comes from Second Harvest. This is why you always hear us talking about The Best Food to Donate and why we will continue to do all we can to bring in ever-increasing donations of healthy food options to our food bank, including fresh fruits and vegetables.
It’s no easy task to move 3 million pounds of nutrient-packed, perishable produce quickly and efficiently to where it is needed most. But we do and will continue to–thanks to your support and to our strong and growing strong relationships with North Carolina farmers, local community gardens, and grocery retail partners, like Walmart.
Below are more highlights from our work through FY 2018, featuring the ways we are feeding health across Northwest North Carolina, together with supporters like you.
