Year in Review: Feeding Opportunity at Second Harvest

Hunger and food insecurity do not exist in a vacuum, but as a symptom of the larger issue of poverty.

At Second Harvest, we are building lasting solutions to end hunger and poverty through Providence.

Our busy and bustling Providence Culinary Training kitchen and classrooms are located in the heart of our warehouse, highlighting the connections between opportunity, health, and good food. Our work provides culinary and life skills training and opportunities to gain resume-building work experience that changes lives one recipe at a time.

In 2018, we continued our work feeding opportunity for local residents. We opened Providence Kitchen, our second dining-for-a-cause-restaurant, expanding our Residency Program to include more positions and more resume-building experience. We continued our Community Meals Program, providing healthy, prepared meals for children and seniors to our partner programs across Northwest North Carolina, including supplying ready-to-heat meals in multiple disaster responses. In 2019, we are looking forward to expanding our Community Meals Program to deliver hot evening meals to children at locations throughout Forsyth County.
