A Challenge Campaign to Feed
Our Neighbors in Need.
Second Harvest Food Bank embarks on its 30th year committed to doing even more to address the very serious problem of hunger among the most vulnerable – families with children and seniors living on fixed incomes.
Plans are underway to expand two programs to serve those most in need in each of Second Harvest Food Bank's 18 counties.
The "Share the Abundance. Feed Our Community." campaign will drive the success of these efforts, matching every $2 donated with $1 to fully implement these programs (see right sidebar).
A growing need for food assistance offers no cause for celebration, yet your action, a gift made online today, will combine with others to reach thousands in need across Northwest NC.

in our Community Faces Hunger
In this series of videos, area advocates talk about the
problem and what YOU can do to help
turn the
tables on childhood hunger.
(Sincere thanks to the NC Pork Council and The Food Effect for their support, which made these informative videos possible.)

Second Harvest Food Bank is proud to partner with the North Carolina Association of Feeding America Food Banks and the NC Pork Council on "The Food Effect," an informative website dedicated to raising awareness of childhood hunger in North Carolina: www.thefoodeffect.com.

Expanding Programs Aim to Reach Most Vulnerable
In collaboration with selected partner agencies in its network, Second Harvest Food Bank
will identify especially needy individuals in each of its 18 counties to receive food assistance through the following expanding initiatives:

Mobile Pantry Distributions
Identified families and seniorswill receive enough nutritious food for two meals per day for an entire month. Examples of food items to be provided include beef stew, chicken and dumplings, canned fruits and vegetables, rice and shelf-stable milk. In this first year of expansion, the Mobile Pantry Distribution program aims to reach 8,400 individuals.

Summer Meal Packs
There is no higher priority than to ensure the nutritional needs of children, our greatest asset. Summer Meal Packs distributed through selected partner agencies will provide nutritious food to children at high risk of hunger during the time that school is not in session in the summer. This program will serve nearly 18,000 eligible children –1,000 children in each of 18 counties.
